Richard Longoria Pinot Grigio

Our Wines / Pinot Grigio

First produced in 1999, Pinot Grigio has become one of our signature wines. Besides being available at our tasting room, it can be found on the lists of many fine restaurants throughout California and select national markets. We intentionally produce it to adhere to the classic Italian style: fresh aromas and flavors, with crisp acidity.

The Harvest
Harvest at Clover Creek and Alisos vineyards occurred even earlier than last year\'s unprecedented early start date. The Pinot Grigio grapes were harvested on August 7th at Alisos Vineyard and on August 10th at Clover Creek Vineyard. Both lots averaged 21.7 Brix with excellent acidity. The crop yields at both vineyards were approximately 50% less than normal due to the extended drought.

The grapes were whole-cluster pressed and settled to a stainless steel tank for 24 hours, then racked and blended together into another fermenter to begin fermentation. Fermentation lasted 10 days, after which the wine was racked to a stainless steel tank for aging and then bottled in January 2016.

The Wine
The wine has the typical pale straw-gold color of this grape varietal. The aromas are of apples and pears with a hint of peanut oil in the background. On the palate, the wine is medium bodied with flavors of apples and cantaloupe. The wine finishes with a crisp, lingering finish.

Food Pairings
This wine is enjoyable all by itself, but it also complements lighter fare such as seafood salads and roasted chicken dishes.
