My winemaking philosophy which I developed early on in my career is based on the concept that wine is a natural food. As such, the ultimate enjoyment of wine is as a graceful and harmonious accompaniment to a meal, whether it be simple or sublime.

While most of my wines are enjoyable by themselves, it is with food that they really shine, and reveal all of their nuances and textures. To me the best wines have the ability to bring out the best in the food they are paired with and conversely the food brings out the best in the wines.

We are pleased to release our latest vintage of Albariño, a rare Spanish white grape varietal. It seems to flourish at Clover Creek Vineyard, as every vintage has received tremendously positive response from critics and consumers alike.

Due to yet another cool year, the Albariño grapes were harvested on October 6th, about two weeks later than normal, at a sugar level of 21.2 Brix. The grapes were whole cluster pressed into a refrigerated tank for settling overnight, then racked to another refrigerated tank to ferment for five weeks. The extended fermentation at an average 60°F helped to preserve the grape’s delicate aromatics. After fermentation was completed, the wine was racked to another tank to age until it was bottled in January.

The wine has a light golden straw color. The aromas are of a mixture of cantaloupe, kiwi and flower blossoms. On the palate the wine is light to medium bodied with intense flavors of kiwi and papaya with a hint of lime. The relatively low alcohol and high natural acidity make for an eminently quaffable wine.

The wine pairs well with a variety of seafood dishes including oysters on the half shell, crab, and Mexican inspired seafood dishes.
