My winemaking philosophy which I developed early on in my career is based on the concept that wine is a natural food. As such, the ultimate enjoyment of wine is as a graceful and harmonious accompaniment to a meal, whether it be simple or sublime.

While most of my wines are enjoyable by themselves, it is with food that they really shine, and reveal all of their nuances and textures. To me the best wines have the ability to bring out the best in the food they are paired with and conversely the food brings out the best in the wines.

All of us at Longoria Wines look forward to the release of this popular blend that pays tribute to one of the great American musical forms – the Blues. Not only is this wine delicious and complex, but every other year we commission a new work of art for the label.

This is our 18th vintage of the Blues Cuvée, and the label features the artwork of artist Trent Call which premiered on last year’s bottling. Trent, who also produced the artwork for both the 2007 and 2008 vintages, is the rare artist who has mastered a wide variety of genres. Trent’s artwork for the 2009 and 2010 bottlings stems from his strong interest in graffiti, comics, graphics and pattern. His graffiti-inspired art is a departure from previous renditions of the Blues Cuvée label, and we’ve been pleased by the positive reaction to his work.

The component wines for this blend were aged in French oak barrels for 21 months before being blended and bottled. The percentage of new oak barrels averaged 25% for the blend.

The wine has a medium dark ruby color. The aromas are of ripe blackberries, spices, earth and leather. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied with strong flavors of spice and berries. The tannins are moderate, and the balanced acidity provides for a lingering finish.

This wine pairs well with a wide variety of foods, but in particular barbequed meats and spicy dishes such as curried lamb kebobs.
